In the heart of Silicon Valley, a residence rises to challenge the conventions of modern living. The latest work by Frank Gehry is more than a home; it is a dynamic composition of volumes – a Gesamtkunstwerk commissioned by a collector who sought to bring the Canadian master’s expressive language to California. In this project, Grassi Pietre’s Vicenza Stone emerges as the material protagonist, providing visual stability to Gehry’s signature free-form geometries.
The Project: A Dialogue Between Light and Matter
The ” The Massy Mehdipour House” reflects Gehry’s lifelong exploration of the boundaries between architecture and sculpture. Through a masterful orchestration of volumes – juxtaposing glass, metal, wood, and stone – the residence is organized into functional cores connected by fluid pathways. Here, Pietra di Vicenza is not merely a cladding; it is an element that defines the very identity of the space, mediating between bold design and domestic warmth.
Interior Refinement: Bianco Avorio
Inside, the interior design by Lindsay Gerber creates a seamless dialogue with the choice of Bianco Avorio Vicenza Stone. Used for flooring and staircases, this limestone from Grassi Pietre infuses the rooms with natural luminosity and an extraordinary tactile quality. Its light tone, enriched by delicate beige nuances and fossilized algae (the characteristic “fiorito” appearance), creates a uniform surface that enhances the curved forms and expansive glass walls, capturing the Californian light in a unique way.
Outdoor Continuity: Gray Palladio
The transition between interior and exterior is fluid and nearly imperceptible. Outside, along the walkways, patios, and the striking pool area, the material interacts with the landscape through Grassi Pietre’s Gray Palladio.
Selected in a bushhammered and brushed finish, this stone variety ensures both durability and slip resistance while offering a sophisticated aesthetic.
