The Vicenza Stone in the history of architecture

The Vicenza stone and marble quarries represent a fascinating chapter in the history of Venetian architecture and art. The tradition of quarrying and working stone in this region dates back centuries, reflecting a rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation.
Since Roman times, this stone has found use in important architectural works. The italian marble quarries were also the starting point for the creation of extraordinary buildings such as the many villas designed by Andrea Palladio in the XVI century.

Over the centuries, the art of working Vicenza Stone has been left as a legacy by master stonemasons who have been able to enhance the characteristics of the precious material, which has established itself as the favorite choice of architects and artists of every era, thanks to its intrinsic beauty , its versatility and its resistance over time.

The Cava Acque museum

To tell and preserve this history, Grassi Pietre has decided to create a museum inside one of its quarries. Cava Acque in Grancona thus became the evocative stage of an exclusive exhibition dedicated to Vicenza Stone. Conceived as a sort of art gallery and curated by architect Silvia Sandini, the exhibition includes several thematic sections that lead to the company's new spacious conference room.

If visiting an underground quarry is already a unique experience in itself, the Cava Acque exhibition itinerary involves the visitor with over 150 years of finds and artefacts from the company's deposits, which are now brought to life again.
